Appearance
Personality
Val is a whole bit of personality shoved into one dog. With a k-9 unit background, she is far from perfect, but is bound to carry quite a few positive traits over the negative. For starters, Val is extremely protective to the ones she cares about. It is in her breed and woven through her blood lines, making it her entire being, not just a personality trait of hers. When she cares about someone, even the smallest things that could potentially harm them are going to have to get through her pointy, white fangs. Val is also super loyal. When she sets her mind to devoting her life to either one or a group of others, she does it with all her heart and soul. It is very hard for one to gain such a strong loyalty from her, but once it is earned, it is usually for life. She takes her trust in others seriously, and once it is broken, it is most likely gone forever. And of course, she isn't going to let you live it down without a few battle wounds, either. Finally, Val is very open minded, especially for once being on the force. She is understanding when it comes to others wants and needs, and isn't very strict on regulations. However, if she gives you respect, she expects it in return. If you break these few rules she has, you have made a very strong and deadly enemy.
As well as having plenty of positive traits, Val has an equal amount of negative to balance out the personality. While her breed is known for it's loyal and protective natures, she also stands to the assumption that they are usually aggressive as well. While she can seem sweet and willing to verbally resolve arguments, that isn't always the case. In most situations, Val would rather bite and talk later, making sure the identified enemy is no longer in any position to hurt herself or anyone around her. It's not that she is truly violent, because her heart is in the right place. But, her only way to be positive that an enemy is unable to do harm is one that is on the ground underneath her claws. With that said, Val is dominant. Not just by nature, but by demand. She isn't the kind of dog that wants to fall in line, obeying everyone else's commands. This doesn't mean that she can't stand in a pack, because she can. But, she would much prefer to have a high stance and a long list of responsibilities to keep her from being herded around like cattle to a sheep dog. That is just going to wind her up and increase her violent nature. To sum it up, Val is stubborn. While she is loyal to the ones above her, she doesn't like to be told 'no'. She believes in what she does and if she is convinced that the action is for the greater good, she might argue until it hurts, or simply go behind ones back to act on it.

Background
Val was born in what most would consider a breeding house. The humans who owned her mother, had sent her off to a breeder and left her there to carry puppies from one of the breeder's studs. When the puppies were born, her mother settled with them until they were old enough to be weaned, and then returned to her own home. The humans of her mother took the two first born pups - both males - and left the other three with the breeders to split the studs profit. Val was one of the pups left at the breeders to find another home. The siblings who stayed with her were known as Apollo (a red male) and the runt of the litter, Eclipse (small, black and brown female.) With so many other pure-bred puppies and high prices, it wasn't easy finding a new home. Eclipse sold first, due to her cute and small stature, as well as her piercing green eyes. Apollo and Val stayed together until they were about 13 months old, when they were sent to a local pet shop, as they were getting too old and expensive for the breeders to take care of. Val was sold fairly quick, to a man with a kind touch and strong personality. From the moment she left that shelter, the pups life was anything but boring.
For the first two years of her life with this man, she lived in a metal cage, surrounded by a bunch of other large dogs. Eventually, she learned that her name literally meant "fierce" and her handler - as he came to be known as - told her she would be one of the fiercest dogs on his team. Though she didn't know what his team was, she was more than willing to learn, as she wanted to have a purpose for her life. She spent her mornings in the cage, eating with the dogs around her - though they were all separated through large metal walls. Her evenings were in a large dog with other Doberman's learning commands and how to respond to them when she was told. It was a lot to take in for such a young dog, but she was willing, and because of that, she learned fast. By the time she was three, she was ahead of the other dogs in her class, and ready to take on the full role on her handlers team.
For the ages three and four, she spent her time working along three other dogs. One with a stocky, black-furred build and floppy ears, that they called Bear, and another dog about her size, though she had long, brown fur, with black patches and thicker/shorter ears, but they were perked. This dog was named Bella. Val was eventually moved to her handlers house, where she was taught the life of a true dog. She ate and slept in a similar metal cage, though this one was smaller and she could see through all four sides, and her days were out in the backyard playing fetch with the man's pups. Life was good for a while, but when she turned four, she went back to the big cages where she was reunited with Bear and Bella. This time, their training was much more intense. They were taught a bunch of new scents, and taught a command to attack another human.
In her fifth year, Val was separated from her group and began going out on route with her handler, protecting him from bad guys and finding whatever bad things they were carrying around. Often, they were strange smelling things hidden in bags. The bad humans liked to hide them in tight spaces, which is why Val knew them by scent and not by sight. Something her handler couldn't seem to do. She spent the next two years at her handlers side, protecting him from enemies and saving the day, as he would call it. But, some time in her sixth year of age, he was hit by one of the loud objects and bad man carried, and he fell to the ground. Val ran to help him, but through all the yelling and sirens, she was forced away by another man. She was thrown in the back of a van, stabbed with a needle, and fell into a deep sleep. When she awoke, she was in another tight cage, the floors were cold and there were no bowls or blankets. The dogs around her were quiet, sickly. And the man who would come and take care of them was violent.
After a month or so in that horrible place, she waited for the man to open her cage. And when he did she latched her teeth onto his arm and pulled - like she had all those years on the team. When he yelped back in pain, she let go and bolted, vowing never to show her face in a place like this, or around humans, ever again.
