you'll never make it to the great unknown unless you
keep your eyes open
How long had he been without his parents now? only a few months, yet it had seemed like decades. or, maybe it had been. his perception of time was off kilter after many days spent asleep because there wasn't anyone there to wake him up. he had to quickly figure out how to care for himself like an independent dog: hunting, bathing, not getting lost, waking up at a reasonable time... Really, with how long his family's life span seemed to be, he was surprised that his parents hadn't stopped him completely when he had requested leaving at such a young age. sure, most dogs probably left their parents after a year or so, yet his slowly developing body had forced him to wait a little bit longer. he... also was not fully prepared to leave, even if he had already left.
No, i proved to them i could handle it. i already have their permission.
the aussie mix checked over his shoulders, making sure that no one was following him, before ruby irises focused on the large building he had been searching around the perimeter of. his nose was pointed towards the ground as he sniffed at the meeting point of the ground and the building wall. the only time he lifted his snout was to look around or to dig at the ground, muddying his paws as his claws scraped at the dirt, metal, and stone. he had heard there was a way into the building, but he hadn't found any other than broken upper story windows. with a huff, he rose his head and sat down. floppy ears drooped as he dejectedly looked around. he had circled around the building two times already. dirt browned his nose, and his paws were beginning to hurt.
i must be missing something.
